About mountain view dojo
Mountain View dojo officially opened in 1990. It started as a kid’s class in B
rock Loveland’s garage. Adults soon joined in. At the time, Brock was also assisting Phil Welker across town with the Boise State dojo. Garage growth led to seeking space at nearby Mtn. View School. Space was exchanged for teaching community ed. classes. Rick Shelton helped coordinate the program. In time, Brock called Mr. Ohshima about opening an SKA dojo. He graciously gave his permission and encouragement.
The dojo is appreciative of the juniors who train at Mt. View. Even those who are inactive have a great reputation for supporting the dojo. These positive relationships and our collective special training memories are our greatest treasure. We have accumulated many,
many out of town special training trips over the years. Numerous trips were twelve hour one way van rides. We have fond memories of stiff, battered and bruised karate people telling stories mile after miles of punctuated with hysterical laughter.
Black Belt ranks awarded while training at Mtn. View: (Shodan…. Scott Mayne, Janet Haffner, Ron Patton, Dwight Comstock, Logan Hobdey, Roger Garidel, Echo Garidel, Ron Miller) (Nidan Rick Shelton, Steve Shelton)
(Sandan Brock Loveland)
New members come from community education
classes, word of mouth, and the self-defense class Brock teaches at BSU.
Mtn. View has been privileged to host and co-host many warm and supportive senior visits to the Boise Valley. Many visited multiple times. (A special thanks to Ron Thom, Norm Welch, Don Depree, Tom Muzila, Yoram Cohen, Greg Scott, Lee Muhl, Randy McClure, Jim Sagawa, George Gamble, Ken Osborne and of course Mr. Ohshima)
We respect and appreciate all the fine people of SKA and Canada, especially those we trained with over the years (too numerous to mention, but you know who you are). We extend our best wishes to all groups worldwide and look forward to the next fifty years.
